Municipal Theatre

One of the most glamorous buildings in Rio de Janeiro is the Municipal Theater. Inspired by the Paris Opera House, the Municipal Theater opened in 1909 with a great display of amazing arches, balustrades, columns, marble staircases, bronze sculptures and stained glass imported from Europe. The paintings in the foyer and vaulted ceiling over the audience are signed by Eliseu Visconti. Along with the main curtain depicting 75 famous figures such as Carlos Gomes, Wagner and Rembrandt is something to be seen.
